Betrothed to the Blade

Princess Cordetta craves the whirring gears of the Inventors Guild, not the gilded cage of a political marriage. With a rare knack for magic pulsing through her veins, she dreams of crafting wonders. But when her family threatens a loveless union, Cordetta must chance a desperate gamble: stow away on the Happily Ever After, her sister’s famed flying ship, to escape a life she never chose.

Little does she know, however, that the Happily Ever After is already caught in the vengeful crosshairs of Heath, a solitary master swordsman forged by betrayal and a life of hardship. This notorious pirate hunts the man who unleashed the Seep, a sinister corruption strangling their enchanted world. As Heath executes his daring one-man heist, he discovers an unwelcome, royal stowaway.

Now, with both refusing to abandon their vessel or their dreams, an uneasy bargain must be struck between the princess and the pirate. Trapped together across treacherous skies, Cordetta and Heath clash, discovering a truth more potent than magic or revenge: a fierce, undeniable bond that sees beyond titles and scars. But with Heath’s thirst for vengeance threatening to consume him, and Cordetta’s mistrustful willfulness, their volatile alliance could either save their fractured world… or shatter both their hearts forever.

Meet our Main Characters

character heath

Heath

Heath’s always had it tough, and he’s lived a rough and often violent life, but never quite like this. They were about to cut his head off after tonight, but he managed to escape his cell and make himself scarce. He just needs to lie low inside this ship right here, just for a while, maybe grab a few more trinkets. After all, surely he needs it more than a princess does…

character cordetta

Cordetta

Cordetta has been there and done that when it comes to being a princess. Specifically, she’s been a princess, and now she’s done with that. Marriage to the man her parents have chosen for her would be like a living mummification, so she’s stealing her sister’s ship and booking it this very night to be an inventor instead. Cross your fingers for her!

One steely pirate. One bossy princess. Two very different ideas of where this ship ought to go.

For fans of Brandon Sanderson, Terry Pratchett, and The Princess Bride comes a witty, fast-paced fantasy adventure brimming with sword fights, sky battles, and a magical world you will not want to leave.

Princess Cordetta is many things: an inventor, a magic-seer, the elder daughter of a royal family in a kingdom where elder daughters must marry before their younger sisters can even be courted. But what she refuses to be is the wife of Fitzbarton Humphreys-Humphries, a man who requires seven forks to eat breakfast and has already told her there will be no reason for any wife of his to make anything other than babies.

And so, she makes a plan, steals a flying ship, and runs.

What she does not plan for is Heath, a sword-skilled pirate who has already stolen his way aboard with a sack of suspicious weapons and a burning vendetta he refuses to explain. He needs her ship. She needs his navigational skills. Together they must outrun the Seep, a spreading magical corruption that twists forests into thorned nightmares and births monsters from its depths.

The closer they sail to the truth about Heath’s past, the more Cordetta realizes that some hunts cannot end without a cost.
